Discover an expressive black tea from the heart of Africa: our Rukeri OP from Rwanda. Known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," this region produces teas of exceptional depth and strength.
This tea is a prime example of the high quality of Rwandan tea production. It impresses with its beautifully crafted, long leaf and full-bodied, robust character. Its delicate malt notes make it a perfect companion for a hearty breakfast or a satisfying afternoon tea break. An honest, strong tea that reflects its origins in every cup.
Origin
Our tea comes from the renowned Rukeri tea region in Rwanda. The tea plants thrive in ideal climatic conditions on the fertile, volcanic soils of the high hills. Local tea farmers place great emphasis on traditional, natural cultivation methods that are in harmony with the region's rich biodiversity and avoid the use of pesticides. This terroir is the basis for the tea's clear and robust flavor.
Quality
The designation OP (Orange Pekoe) indicates a high-quality leaf tea. You receive a tea that has been carefully produced according to orthodox methods and consists exclusively of whole, long, and wiry leaves. Unlike broken teas, OP teas develop a more balanced aroma and, with the correct brewing time, produce a clear, aromatic cup without bitterness.
Flavor profile
The Rukeri OP presents itself in the cup with a deep, bright copper-brown color. The palate is dominated by a robust and full-bodied body , underscored by a pleasant, light malt note . Its robust structure makes it ideal for refining with a dash of fresh milk or cream, which further enhances its malty sweetness.
Preparation recommendation
For an optimal taste experience, we recommend the following preparation:
- Dosage: 13 g of tea per liter of water (approx. 3 g / 250 ml cup)
- Water temperature: 100°C (boiling water)
- Brewing time: 3–5 minutes
With a shorter brewing time of 3 minutes, it's lively and stimulating. At 5 minutes, it becomes fuller, maltier, and develops the perfect strength for pairing with milk.
