Our philosophy of origin: quality, transparency and responsibility

At Zuri Foods, our mission is to bring you closer to the authentic diversity of African food. We believe the best way to achieve this is through a close and honest partnership with local producers. Therefore, we source our products directly from their countries of origin in Africa whenever possible, working primarily with small farms and local producers.

Clear labeling, safe origin

We place great importance on transparency. For this reason, we provide the precise origin of each product. If a product comes from multiple countries, we label it in the shop as "EU agriculture," "non-EU agriculture," or "a mix of EU and non-EU agriculture" to give you clear guidance. Our millet, for example, usually comes from Uganda, Tanzania, or Ethiopia, depending on availability. We carefully select our products to ensure consistent quality – and we stand behind this with our name.

Why not every product comes from Africa

Our goal is to always offer you products of the highest quality and purity. To meet this standard, we conduct a thorough risk assessment for every product and every country of origin. For imports from non-EU countries, we check compliance with strict European food standards.

In rare cases, our risk assessments mean that we cannot source a product directly from Africa. A current example of this is maize, which, due to climate change and regional agricultural challenges, can sometimes show worrying levels of aflatoxins or pesticides in laboratory tests. In such cases, we responsibly source within the EU. Here, too, we guarantee top quality with our name.

We don't see this as a compromise, but rather as a necessity to ensure the safety of our customers while fulfilling our commitment. At the same time, we are working with our partners in Africa on solutions to improve agricultural practices in the long term so that their products always meet European standards.

However, our main focus is always on bringing you the authentic flavors of Africa directly from their countries of origin.
