The liquid gold of West Africa: Nigerian Heritage Palm Oil

Red palm oil is far more than just a cooking oil; it's the heart and soul of Nigerian culinary tradition. Nigerian Heritage's unrefined palm oil is extracted directly from the flesh of ripe oil palm fruits, preserving its unique flavor, deep red color, and valuable nutrients.

Unlike refined, light-colored palm oil, this traditional red oil has a distinct, savory aroma, often described as slightly nutty and floral. It is this depth of flavor that gives dishes like Egusi soup, Banga soup, or the famous bean porridge Ewa Agoyin their inimitable character.

Note on consistency:

Unrefined red palm oil is naturally solid to creamy at cool room temperatures (below 20°C). This is a sign of its purity and not a quality defect. To liquefy it, simply place the bottle in a warm water bath or store it in a warmer place in your kitchen.

Culinary inspiration:

  • As a base for stews: Heat the oil and sauté onions and peppers as the basis for your Nigerian stews.
  • For authentic soups: Indispensable for the taste and color of Egusi, Ogbono or Afang soup.
  • For frying & deep-frying: Gives plantains, yams or fish a delicious, authentic flavor when deep-fried.
  • For bean dishes: A must for traditional bean porridge (Ewa Agoyin) or Adalu (beans with corn).
